General Cashier

Role Overview

As the General Cashier, you are the central guardian of the hotel’s cash flow, managing the full cycle of collection, verification, reconciliation, and banking of all monetary instruments. Day to day, you will handle funds from Front Office, Food & Beverage, and other revenue centers, maintain the house bank and petty cash, and produce accurate records that support financial control. Your precision and integrity are essential to protecting the property’s assets and ensuring compliance with both internal procedures and local regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect, verify, and reconcile daily cash, cheques, credit card vouchers, and remittances from all revenue areas, ensuring every transaction is accounted for.
• Prepare and coordinate bank deposits, ensuring collections are deposited intact and within required timelines.
• Manage the house bank and petty cash, handling authorized disbursements, advances, and reimbursements with complete supporting documentation.
• Maintain accurate daily cash records and reports for the Income Auditor, Finance Manager, and other stakeholders.
• Safeguard unclaimed wages and other held funds through secure custody and precise accounting.
• Participate in surprise cash counts, investigations, and reconciliations to uphold strong internal controls.
• Provide Front Office and Food & Beverage with sufficient change, particularly during weekends, holidays, and peak periods.
• Coach operational teams on cash-handling best practices—such as identifying counterfeit notes and verifying cheques and credit cards—and support Finance training, inventory counts, and cross-functional tasks.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Diploma or certificate in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
• CPA Part I or an equivalent accounting qualification is advantageous.
• 2–3 years of experience in a cash-handling or accounting role, ideally in a hotel or hospitality setting.
• Previous work as a General Cashier, Cashier, Accounts Clerk, Income Auditor, or similar finance position is preferred.
• Solid understanding of cash handling, reconciliation, banking, petty cash, and financial controls.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; familiarity with hotel or accounting systems is a plus.
• Demonstrated integrity, confidentiality, accountability, and trustworthiness, given the sensitive nature of the role.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with Front Office, Food & Beverage, and Finance teams.
• Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced luxury hospitality environment.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays, as required by hotel operations.
