Job Description
Role Overview
The Finance Officer – Grants Compliance helps Landscape Alliance meet donor requirements and stay prepared for audits. The role combines audit planning and follow-up, oversight of grant records, and practical guidance for teams working on grants, while helping turn audit findings and donor rules into consistent processes across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Review past audit trends to plan pre-audits, identify documentation or compliance gaps, agree corrective actions, and track those actions through to completion.
- Coordinate legacy audits by preparing transaction information and supporting documents, responding to auditor questions, arranging input from relevant teams, and documenting lessons and recommendations.
- Serve as a point of contact for internal audit queries and support related compliance work, including risk assessments, combined assurance mapping, pillar assessments, and policy or procedure updates.
- Monitor project and country grant folders in SharePoint against records-management guidelines, report gaps, guide teams on improvements, and work with IT on potential automated completeness checks.
- Develop and maintain guidance on required partner and sub-recipient supporting documents, coordinating mandatory requirements with the PMU and sharing them with partners when Letters of Agreement are signed.
- Translate donor terms and conditions into practical reference materials, including a knowledge hub, guidance notes, and monthly summaries of compliance requirements for newly activated grants.
- Deliver onboarding and refresher training for finance, grants, budgeting, procurement, PMU, and project staff; maintain an induction guide for grant accountants and explain relevant donor financial rules.
- Track grant invoices from preparation through payment, identify overdue items and process bottlenecks, coordinate follow-up with Finance and project teams, and report issues that may affect cash flow.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Auditing.
- At least five years of relevant professional experience, ideally in an international organization, with increasing responsibility in audit, project management, or operations.
- Practical experience in financial, accounting, or audit services, and in audit, compliance, or risk management.
- Ability to interpret donor requirements, review grant documentation, coordinate audit responses, and communicate compliance guidance to colleagues and partners.
- Experience using an ERP system; familiarity with Agresso Unit 4 and Vision XL is an advantage.
