Role Overview
The Field Sales Manager is accountable for all sales activity tied to a designated shop, with the main focus on building and guiding a commission-based field team that consistently reaches its targets. Day to day, the role involves recruiting and coaching agents, reviewing their field performance, removing blockers, and keeping sales momentum strong across the assigned territory. This position matters because the shop’s growth depends on disciplined field execution, steady lead generation, and clear communication between agents, shop operations, and area leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruit, onboard, and continuously coach a team of commission-based sales agents so each person understands targets, products, and performance expectations.
- Develop practical sales plans for the shop and help agents create lead-generation activities that work within local communities and customer networks.
- Accompany agents in the field and provide hands-on training in pitching to customer groups such as chamas and other collective buying groups.
- Monitor daily agent activity and sales results, identify underperformance early, and provide support, retraining, or corrective guidance where needed.
- Prepare and share regular reports with the Area Sales Manager covering sales achieved, pipeline activity, challenges, and recommended actions.
- Identify training gaps across the sales team and coordinate with HR to arrange relevant development programs.
- Work closely with the local shop Administrator to ensure field agents have adequate stock available at the right time.
- Track market trends, customer behaviour, and competitor activity, then share useful insights with management for planning and decision-making.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least five years of experience in sales or micro-finance, with a strong record of achieving targets.
- Experience working in rural areas is essential.
- Proven experience recruiting and managing commission-based sales agents.
- Strong leadership abilities and outstanding interpersonal skills.
- Ability to think and plan strategically to achieve set outcomes.
- Ability to deliver under pressure and meet targets.
- A diploma or degree in a related field is an added advantage.
