Role Overview
The Field Sales Manager drives all sales activity within a designated shop and its surrounding territory. This person builds and leads a team of commission-based agents, ensuring they have the training, motivation, and daily support needed to hit shop targets. The role is central to expanding reach in rural markets and to keeping sales operations aligned with the Area Sales Manager's goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruit, onboard, and continually develop a team of commission-based sales agents, creating a culture of high performance and accountability.
- Design and implement sales plans for the shop, including initiatives to generate new leads and expand the customer base.
- Coach agents on effective pitching techniques, particularly when presenting to group savings arrangements such as chamas.
- Track agent activity on a daily basis, identify underperformance, and provide hands-on support or intervention where needed.
- Prepare and submit regular progress reports to the Area Sales Manager, covering sales results, challenges, and emerging opportunities.
- Assess training gaps within the team and coordinate with HR to arrange relevant development programs.
- Work closely with the shop Administrator to ensure agents have sufficient stock and that supply meets field demand.
- Keep a close watch on market trends, customer habits, and competitor moves, and share actionable insights with management.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least five years of experience in sales or microfinance, with a demonstrated ability to meet or exceed targets.
- Prior experience working in rural areas is mandatory.
- Demonstrated success in building and overseeing a commission-based sales force.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate a dispersed field team.
- Capacity to think strategically and plan effectively to reach agreed objectives.
- Ability to perform under pressure and consistently deliver against targets.
- A diploma or degree in a related discipline would be a plus.
