Faulu MFB - Business Growth and Development Manager - Nyeri Branch

Role Overview

The Branch Manager leads the branch’s commercial performance and daily operations, turning the bank’s strategy into practical plans for customer growth, portfolio quality, and profitability. Working with the Area Manager and branch teams, this role builds lasting customer and community relationships, expands use of digital and agency banking, and ensures business is conducted safely and in line with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Translate the bank’s business priorities into branch plans, set performance targets, monitor results, and take action when growth or profitability falls behind plan.
• Grow a balanced, high-quality portfolio across lending and deposits by attracting suitable customers, supporting effective onboarding, and identifying opportunities to deepen existing relationships.
• Lead branch sales activity and support the performance of sales staff, Ignite Associates, consultants, agency outlets, and other alternative service channels.
• Develop productive relationships with customers, local businesses, community groups, government structures, and other stakeholders to generate sustainable business opportunities.
• Promote customer service, retention, and cross-selling; share changing customer needs and market developments with product, marketing, and business teams.
• Strengthen local brand presence through community engagement and appropriate use of marketing materials, while ensuring communications reflect the bank’s positioning and guidelines.
• Manage, coach, and develop branch staff through clear objectives, regular feedback, training, mentoring, performance support, and succession planning; apply people policies and procedures consistently.
• Oversee branch controls and operations, including opening and closing, security, cash limits, health and safety, credit committee activity, lending quality, audit readiness, and compliance with bank policy and Central Bank of Kenya requirements.
• Plan and monitor the branch budget, use staffing and other resources efficiently, and address cost or performance variances promptly.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a business-related discipline from a recognised university.
• At least six years of relevant work experience, including three or more years in a managerial role, with evidence of delivering strong business results.
• Experience in lending or credit, preferably gained in a microfinance institution or another financial services organisation.
• Strong capability in business planning, sales and marketing, financial analysis, customer service, and relationship management.
• Confident people leadership skills, including the ability to set expectations, coach employees, build team capability, and support staff development.
• Clear communication and presentation skills, sound negotiation, and the ability to make decisions and solve problems effectively.
• Self-motivated and target-focused, able to work with limited supervision while contributing as a collaborative team leader.
• Advanced business management training is an advantage. A master’s degree in business or a related field is preferred but not required.
