Role Overview
The Branch Manager leads the branch’s commercial performance and day-to-day operations, turning the bank’s wider strategy into local plans that grow a sound lending and deposit portfolio. Working with the Area Manager, branch staff, Ignite Associates and Sales Consultants, the role builds customer relationships, expands access through agency and digital banking, and ensures growth is balanced with strong service, cost discipline and regulatory control.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate the bank’s business priorities into branch plans, set measurable targets and take corrective action when results fall short.
- Grow lending, deposits and other products by leading sales activity, acquiring and onboarding customers, identifying cross-selling opportunities, and strengthening retention.
- Develop profitable relationships with customers, local businesses, community groups, government structures and other partners; respond to shifting customer needs and market conditions.
- Expand business through the branch and its linked agencies and alternative service outlets, while promoting digital and agency banking adoption.
- Lead branch marketing and brand activity, maintain appropriate merchandising, and work with product and marketing teams to recommend changes that better serve customers.
- Set performance expectations for staff and provide regular coaching, feedback, training opportunities and succession development to build a capable, motivated team.
- Manage branch budgets and resources, review financial performance, control costs and make adjustments to support sustainable profitability.
- Oversee branch operations, security, cash limits, health and safety, and audit and regulatory compliance; chair the Branch Credit Committee and uphold lending controls and credit quality.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a business-related discipline from a recognised university.
- At least six years of relevant experience, including a minimum of three years in a management role with evidence of delivering strong results.
- Experience in lending or credit, preferably gained in a microfinance institution or another financial institution.
- Strong capability in business planning, sales and marketing, financial analysis, customer service, relationship management and negotiation.
- Demonstrated leadership, decision-making and problem-solving skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team and work independently.
- Clear communication and presentation skills; accurate data-entry and typing ability.
- Advanced business management training is an advantage. A master’s degree in business or a related field is preferred but not required.
