Role Overview
This position owns the day-to-day running of a commercial herb growing operation, from land preparation through harvest and post-harvest handling, and is accountable for keeping output on track against agreed production targets. The person in this seat translates seasonal production plans into field-level action, directing field crews and coordinating the inputs, equipment, and schedules needed to deliver consistent quality and volume. Success here directly protects yield, product quality, and the reliability of supply the wider business depends on.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and execute production schedules that reflect organizational volume, timing, and quality targets, then adjust them as field conditions change.
- Direct the full crop cycle — land preparation, planting, irrigation, fertilization, weeding, pruning, and harvest — monitoring growth, development, and overall field performance throughout.
- Scout for and respond to pest, disease, and other agronomic threats, selecting and applying appropriate crop protection measures.
- Oversee harvesting, sorting, grading, and post-harvest handling so that produce meets established quality and hygiene standards.
- Find and act on opportunities to reduce post-harvest loss and lift product quality.
- Keep accurate records of production, yields, harvests, and field activities, and prepare reports that track progress against targets.
- Lead, train, and supervise field teams, monitoring adherence to production schedules and safe working practice.
- Manage the availability and correct use of farm inputs, equipment, and other production resources, conducting field assessments and recommending improvements.
- Research improved varieties, techniques, and farming practices, and contribute to expansion and value-addition initiatives.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agribusiness, Crop Science, or a comparable discipline.
- At least five years of progressive experience, including a minimum of two years working in agriculture with a focus on horticulture or beekeeping.
- Hands-on commercial experience producing herbs and managing crops at scale.
- Solid grounding in horticultural practice, crop health, pest and disease management, and post-harvest handling.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise agricultural field teams and coordinate farm operations across a season.
- Working knowledge of sustainable, resource-efficient production methods.
- Comfortable working in field-based and remote operational locations.
- Strong record-keeping, reporting, and organizational skills.
