Strategic Overview

We are seeking a high-caliber External Auditor to oversee our financial transparency and statutory adherence on a part-time basis. In this role, you will act as a critical independent evaluator of our financial statements, ensuring that all accounting records meet international standards and local regulatory requirements. Your expertise will be vital in navigating the complexities of tax compliance, particularly in managing interactions with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA). This position is designed for a detail-oriented professional who can identify fiscal risks, optimize internal controls, and provide strategic advisory to management on best financial practices.

Key Workstreams

Statutory Audit & Financial Integrity

  • Execute comprehensive external audits of financial statements, ledgers, and reconciliations to ensure absolute accuracy.

  • Verify that all financial reporting aligns with current accounting standards and legal frameworks.

  • Review VAT returns and payroll records to ensure precise statutory deductions and reporting.

  • Conduct rigorous systems reviews to identify and rectify weaknesses in financial management.

Tax Governance & KRA Liaison

  • Lead engagements with the Kenya Revenue Authority, responding to audit queries and managing tax assessments professionally.

  • Identify potential tax risks and discrepancies, proposing mitigation strategies to ensure full compliance with VAT, PAYE, and corporate tax laws.

  • Support the resolution of tax disputes, penalties, and outstanding statutory obligations.

  • Provide expert advisory on evolving tax regulations to protect the organization from non-compliance risks.

Payroll & Internal Control Oversight

  • Audit payroll systems to guarantee the correct computation of remittances and adherence to labor laws.

  • Evaluate and enhance the effectiveness of internal control systems and governance frameworks.

  • Perform detailed risk assessments across all financial and operational processes.

  • Prepare and present granular audit findings and recommendations to the executive team.

Expertise Profile

The Essentials

  • Education: Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.

  • Certification: Must be CPA-K qualified.

  • Domain Expertise: Minimum of 3+ years’ experience in statutory and tax audit functions.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Proven experience dealing with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is mandatory.

Professional Competencies

  • Investigative Depth: Ability to analyze complex financial data and pinpoint discrepancies or areas of non-compliance.
