Role Overview
Sarakasi Trust is hiring a Digital Marketer & Content Creator to be the digital voice of its work in Nairobi. Day to day, this person turns what happens on stage, in rehearsal rooms and inside community programmes into photographs, video and written stories that travel across social media, the website and email. The role matters because the Trust's audience, supporters and partners meet its artists online first, and this position is what keeps that relationship active, current and growing.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and run a rolling content calendar covering social channels, the website and email, timed to performances, programme milestones and organisational announcements.
- Shoot and edit original photography and short-form video — performances, workshops, rehearsals and behind-the-scenes moments — and adapt each asset to the format and dimensions of the platform it will appear on.
- Write captions, posts, blog pieces and newsletter copy that introduce artists, explain programmes and invite audiences to take part or attend.
- Handle daily publishing, scheduling and community management across digital accounts, replying to comments and direct messages so conversations do not stall.
- Interview artists, crew and participants to source first-hand quotes, profiles and story angles rather than reposting existing material.
- Monitor reach, engagement and follower growth, report on which formats and topics perform, and use those findings to refine the next round of content.
- Coordinate with programme, production and fundraising colleagues so campaigns, ticket pushes and announcements land in step with real events.
- Keep an organised, searchable library of photographs, video footage and brand assets so material can be reused and shared across teams.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least two years of hands-on experience in digital marketing, social media management and content creation, supported by a portfolio of published work.
- Practical skills in both photography and video production, including editing with standard creative software and preparing files for web and social use.
- Strong written communication, with the range to move between a short caption, a long-form article and a newsletter without losing tone or accuracy.
- A strategic approach to content: able to connect what is posted to audience growth, engagement and the Trust's wider communication goals.
- Confident, clear communicator who can interview artists and programme staff, take direction, and present ideas to colleagues at different levels.
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a busy arts environment where schedules shift, including some evening and weekend work around performances and events.
- Diploma or degree in marketing, communications, journalism, media studies or a related field, or equivalent practical experience in place of formal study.
- Genuine interest in the performing arts and in telling the stories of artists and communities.
