Role Overview
This engineering design role focuses on turning project expectations into complete, practical security and life safety system packages that contractors and site teams can build from. The work involves creating CAD/BIM drawings, sizing and specifying equipment, surveying live site conditions, and coordinating designs with other engineering disciplines. These deliverables matter because they shape procurement, installation, and approval decisions; getting them accurate and well-documented helps avoid construction defects, delays, and budget overruns.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop integrated designs for security and life safety systems, including video surveillance, access control, public address and voice alarm, entrance control, IP telephony, and intercom systems, according to project specifications and site constraints.
- Prepare system architecture diagrams, equipment schedules, block diagrams, schematic layouts, containment routing, and full design submission packages using CAD/BIM tools.
- Produce and maintain accurate 2D and 3D working drawings, installation details, and as-built records that reflect approved changes and actual site installation conditions.
- Carry out site surveys and technical audits by measuring existing infrastructure, identifying physical limitations, recording field observations, and translating these findings into revised drawings and design recommendations.
- Build bills of quantities, material take-offs, and technical specifications for security and life safety scopes, ensuring accuracy against the issued design and supporting quotation reviews.
- Coordinate with project managers, consultants, builders, sales staff, and client representatives so that security design integrates cleanly with architectural, electrical, mechanical, and ICT works.
- Attend project and design coordination meetings, prepare minutes, and track design actions, revisions, and outstanding issues until resolution.
- Perform routine quality checks on all drawing outputs, verify compliance with applicable codes and company standards, and recommend practical improvements or emerging technologies that strengthen the design solution.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, civil, urban planning, or another related engineering/design discipline.
- At least two years of relevant experience in security system engineering, life safety design, CAD documentation, or a closely related technical field; prior work on security/life safety systems is an advantage.
- Confirmed AutoCAD proficiency; working knowledge of Revit or other BIM tools is strongly preferred.
- Ability to interpret architectural, structural, electrical, and engineering drawings while producing coordinated, field-ready drawings.
- Sound understanding of security and life safety equipment operation, system architecture, and installation fundamentals.
- Practical experience with site surveys, measurements, and converting rough field data into formal survey reports and design updates.
- Ability to create equipment and material schedules and prepare BOQs in a clear, reliable format.
- Strong written and spoken communication, plus a structured approach to document control, versioning, and submission deadlines.
