Role Overview
This position sits at the centre of event logistics, making sure every piece of equipment, from lighting rigs to floral displays, reaches the correct venue at the right moment. On a typical day, you will not only drive but also work shoulder-to-shoulder with setup crews, physically handling valuable inventory and helping keep production schedules on track. Your reliability and on-site conduct directly influence how clients perceive the company at every event.
Key Responsibilities
- Transport event materials, furniture, audio-visual systems, staging components, and crew members between the company depot, partner warehouses, and event sites across Nairobi and surrounding regions.
- Work closely with loading teams to secure all cargo properly using straps, ropes, padding, and protective covers, then reverse the process on arrival without damaging fragile or high-value items.
- Cross-check every load against delivery notes and event checklists before departure and at the destination, collecting signed confirmation from client representatives or site managers.
- Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, checking tyres, fluids, lights, brakes, and critical safety systems, and report any defects before they become problems.
- Plan each day's route with traffic patterns, venue access points, clearance heights, and event deadlines in mind, adjusting quickly when road conditions change.
- Maintain accurate trip logs covering mileage, fuel usage, routes taken, and vehicle service needs, keeping the cab and cargo area clean and presentable at all times.
- Follow NTSA regulations, speed limits, and company safety protocols, and alert management immediately to accidents, breakdowns, or any delay that could affect event timing.
- Step in wherever needed on-site, including helping crews unload, position equipment, or manage last-minute changes, to ensure every event starts on schedule.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Valid Kenyan driving licence with the appropriate class and endorsements for light commercial vehicles, vans, or pickup trucks.
- At least three to five years of professional commercial driving experience, ideally within logistics, events, hospitality, catering, or a similarly deadline-driven sector.
- Strong working knowledge of Nairobi roads, surrounding counties, and common event venues, including access restrictions and high-traffic periods.
- Proven ability to manage time under pressure and adapt to shifting delivery windows or last-minute changes.
- Clear communication in both Swahili and English, allowing you to coordinate with warehouse teams, venue staff, and clients.
- Solid physical fitness and the confidence to lift, carry, and manoeuvre heavy or bulky equipment alongside the crew.
- A professional appearance and customer-service mindset, as you are a visible representative of the company at each site.
- Problem-solving skills that let you handle tight spaces, difficult loading docks, or unexpected vehicle issues with minimal disruption.
