Role Overview
This position places a seasoned heavy-vehicle driver at the centre of the distribution chain for an established animal feeds manufacturer, moving finished feed from the production point out to farmers, agrovets and stockists throughout the Mt. Kenya region. Because feed deliveries are tied directly to livestock feeding cycles, punctuality and load accuracy matter as much as driving skill — a late or short delivery has an immediate impact on the customer's animals and on the company's reputation. The person in this role works largely independently on the road, representing the business at every drop-off point, and is trusted to keep both the truck and the paperwork in order.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive company delivery trucks to customer sites across the Mt. Kenya region, transporting bagged animal feeds safely and on schedule.
- Confirm the quantity, product type and condition of each load against the dispatch documents before leaving the yard, and resolve any discrepancy before departure.
- Keep delivery paperwork accurate and complete — signed delivery notes, returns, and records of any rejected or damaged stock — and hand them in promptly.
- Carry out pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, checking tyres, brakes, fluids, lights and load security, and log any defect for the workshop.
- Report mechanical faults, accidents or near-misses to the transport supervisor without delay.
- Oversee loading and offloading at both ends of the journey, making sure bags are stacked and handled so that feed is not torn, spilled or spoiled.
- Plan and follow efficient routes and the assigned delivery schedule, adapting to road conditions, weather and traffic while keeping customers informed of delays.
- Observe all traffic laws, load-limit rules and company safety procedures, and maintain professional conduct with customers and their staff.
Requirements & Qualifications
- More than 10 years' hands-on experience driving delivery trucks in the roughly 10-tonne class, such as the Isuzu FRR or Mitsubishi FH.
- Demonstrated track record delivering animal feeds or comparable bulk agricultural products within the Mt. Kenya region.
- Detailed working knowledge of the region's roads, feeder routes, towns and customer locations, including rural access roads.
- Valid driving licence for the relevant truck class, with no endorsements that would prevent commercial delivery work.
- Clean driving record and a demonstrated commitment to road safety.
- Basic vehicle maintenance know-how — able to spot developing faults early and handle minor roadside issues.
- High personal integrity, given responsibility for valuable loads, cash-on-delivery or signed documentation where applicable.
- Physically able to supervise loading and offloading and to work long or early-starting shifts as delivery schedules require.
- Primary-level education or above; ability to read dispatch documents, delivery notes and route instructions accurately.
