Job Description

Role Overview

This position sits at the centre of the organisation's cash-flow discipline, owning the day-to-day oversight of customer and tenant balances from the moment credit is extended through to final settlement. You will spend your time reviewing ageing reports, interrogating account movements, chasing overdue rent, service charges and invoices alongside the collections team, and translating what you find into clear reports that leadership can act on. The value you bring is straightforward: fewer balances slipping past their terms, cleaner account records, earlier warning of accounts heading into trouble, and a receivables position management can actually rely on when making decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate customer and tenant accounts at onboarding and on an ongoing basis, confirming that credit limits, payment terms and account conditions remain appropriate and within approved policy.
  • Track rent, service charge, invoice and other receivable balances continuously, working through accounts receivable ageing reports to spot deteriorating payment behaviour before it becomes a write-off risk.
  • Flag accounts showing elevated risk, recommend the appropriate control response, and escalate long-outstanding or high-value balances to management with supporting context.
  • Set collection priorities for the Credit Collection Officer based on age, value and risk profile, then monitor whether agreed payment plans and commitments are actually being honoured.
  • Investigate mismatches between invoices, receipts and account balances, support reconciliation of receivable accounts, and make sure payments are allocated to the correct customer or tenant ledger.
  • Follow up on unidentified, misapplied or disputed payments until they are resolved and cleared from suspense.
  • Produce weekly and monthly credit-control and ageing reports, track collection performance against targets, and present analysis of overdue trends and overall credit exposure to management.
  • Keep documentation of credit decisions, account reviews and collection actions audit-ready, protect the confidentiality of tenant, customer and financial data, and assist with internal and external audit requests.
  • Partner with Finance, Property Management and other teams to resolve account disputes, and recommend practical fixes where existing monitoring or collection processes are slow, manual or prone to error.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, Economics or a closely related discipline.
  • Two to three years of practical experience in credit control, accounts receivable, general finance or a comparable role, with a demonstrated grasp of ageing analysis and collection follow-through.
  • Comfort reading and interpreting receivables ledgers, statements, payment allocations and reconciliation differences, and turning that detail into accurate reports.
  • Prior exposure to real estate, property management, banking or financial services is advantageous, as is progress toward or completion of CPA certification.
  • Working familiarity with accounting packages or ERP systems, and the spreadsheet skills to build and maintain trackers and ageing schedules.
  • Strong written and verbal communication for chasing debtors, negotiating payment arrangements and briefing management, combined with the discretion to handle sensitive financial information appropriately.
  • A methodical, detail-driven approach and the judgement to know when a situation needs escalation rather than another reminder.
