Role Overview
This position owns the corporate General Insurance portfolio that flows through the Independent Financial Advisor (IFA) channel, acting as the bridge between intermediaries and the internal teams that underwrite, service and collect on that business. Day to day, the job holder spends their time in the field and on the phone with advisors — sourcing new corporate risks, chasing renewals before they lapse, untangling service and commission queries, and coaching advisors on how to position GI products confidently. The role matters because the IFA network is a primary route to corporate premium growth, so the person in this seat directly determines whether the portfolio expands, holds steady or erodes to competitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Build a pipeline of new corporate General Insurance business by prospecting, recruiting and activating Independent Financial Advisors who can place commercial risks.
- Protect and grow the existing corporate book by managing the renewal calendar proactively, engaging advisors well ahead of expiry dates and heading off competitor poaching and silent lapses.
- Serve as the named point of contact for a panel of IFAs, handling enquiries on policy wording, claims progress, commissions and documentation, and escalating internally when a query cannot be closed quickly.
- Screen incoming risks against delegated underwriting authority and approved guidelines before passing complete proposal forms, risk details and supporting documents to Underwriting for processing.
- Chase premium collection alongside Finance, following up on outstanding receivables and resolving billing or payment disputes that could put a relationship or a renewal at risk.
- Deliver product and process training sessions for advisors, keeping schedules and attendance records, and promoting approved incentive programmes that reward new placements.
- Track competitor pricing, market movements and shifting advisor preferences, and feed concise intelligence back to the supervisor to inform tactical decisions.
- Compile daily and weekly performance reporting on premium written, conversion rates and retention, and coordinate with Claims, Branches and other functions to keep service delivery seamless.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Insurance, Finance, Marketing or a related commercial discipline.
- A recognised professional insurance qualification such as ACII, IIK or an equivalent credential.
- Two to four years of insurance industry experience, ideally gained in General Insurance sales, business development or intermediary/IFA relationship management.
- Working knowledge of GI product structures — what is covered, what is excluded, how policy terms are interpreted — and of prevailing market practice.
- Proven ability to win and keep intermediary relationships, with a track record of converting advisor contact into placed premium.
- Practical understanding of risk assessment principles and the discipline of operating within a delegated underwriting authority.
- Confident negotiation and persuasion skills, used both to close business with advisors and to hold firm on commercial terms with clients.
- Strong organisational habits for juggling renewals, queries, reporting deadlines and multiple internal stakeholders at once.
