Construction Interior Designer

Role Overview

This position owns interior design projects from the first concept sketch through to the day the finished space is handed over, combining creative design work with hands-on delivery management. Working largely without day-to-day supervision, the designer acts as the lead design representative on assigned jobs, balancing design intent against the practical realities of buildability, cost and timeline. The role also covers the ongoing care of existing premises, so the portfolio spans new fit-outs alongside renovation, repair and preventive maintenance planning.

Key Responsibilities

• Concept and design documentation: Turn client briefs into workable concepts, then develop them into mood boards, material palettes, space plans, detailed drawings, specifications and finishes schedules ready for pricing and construction.
• End-to-end project ownership: Run assigned fit-out projects independently from initial site survey and requirements gathering through to handover, keeping the design schedule on track.
• Multi-disciplinary coordination: Liaise with architects, engineers, quantity surveyors, contractors, suppliers and the client's team so drawings, costs and on-site activity stay aligned, and protect the design intent during installation.
• Client management: Lead briefings, present design proposals, secure sign-off, provide regular progress updates and respond quickly to concerns, building relationships that support repeat work.
• Budget stewardship: Prepare cost estimates and material schedules, keep specifications within the approved budget, communicate the cost implications of variations, and suggest cost-effective alternatives where the design allows.
• Site supervision and quality assurance: Carry out regular inspections, verify that materials and workmanship match approved specifications, record findings in site observation reports and drive corrective action where standards fall short.
• Facility maintenance and renovation: Inspect existing premises to identify repair, maintenance and upgrade needs, then design, plan and oversee the resulting repair, alteration and renovation works against agreed specifications, budgets and timelines.
• Procurement and records: Source finishes, furniture, fittings and décor, assess supplier proposals and samples, coordinate deliveries and installation schedules, and maintain accurate drawings, approvals, correspondence and progress reports.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree in interior design, architecture or a closely related field; a professional interior design certification is viewed favourably.
• A minimum of six years in interior design and construction project delivery, with demonstrated experience running fit-out projects independently.
• Background in commercial, residential, hospitality or corporate interiors is desirable.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, 3ds Max, Lumion or comparable design software, supported by strong space planning and visualisation skills.
• Solid knowledge of interior materials, finishes, furniture and construction methods, together with an understanding of building maintenance, facility renovation and repair planning.
• Strong project coordination and organisational ability, with the capacity to manage several live projects at once.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, sharp problem-solving and decision-making, and close attention to detail and quality.
• Ability to work under pressure and consistently meet project deadlines.
