Role Overview

This position supports the communications strategy of the Regional Multi-actor Research Network for Agroecology in East Africa, a project connecting research partners across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. The role involves translating scientific work into accessible visual and written content, managing digital platforms, and documenting field activities. The work directly strengthens the network's visibility and engagement with stakeholders, partners, and the broader public.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design print and digital promotional materials such as brochures, flyers, posters, banners, and advertisements, ensuring a consistent visual identity.
  • Create graphics and visuals for the project website and social media channels, including posts, stories, and online banners.
  • Develop infographics and data visualisations that present complex scientific information in a clear, engaging, and easy-to-understand format.
  • Produce motion graphics for videos and digital displays used during stakeholder events and conferences.
  • Manage content on web-based collaboration platforms, including the Agroecology Transformative Partnership Platform and SharePoint, by uploading, formatting, and organising material for readability and accessibility.
  • Review and update website content regularly to maintain accuracy, relevance, and search engine visibility, while also enabling easy sharing across social media.
  • Perform basic website analytics to assess performance and inform content decisions.
  • Cover consortium events, workshops, field visits, and outreach activities through photography and videography, capturing project activities and beneficiary stories in the region.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma in graphic design, mass communication, journalism, or a related field.
  • At least one year of practical communication experience in a research or development context.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard design software, including Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and After Effects.
  • Strong content development and editorial skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas in a creative, direct, and lively style.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, and a good working command of Swahili.
  • Experience working with digital content, social media analytics, and web content management.
