Role Overview
This role sits at the front end of the business, where growth is won or lost: you will spend your days prospecting for new clients, turning enquiries and referrals into written policies, and making sure existing policyholders stay on the books when renewal dates come around. Working alongside branch teams and colleagues in other functions, you will match customers with cover that genuinely fits their needs rather than pushing a single product. The person in this seat directly shapes how quickly the customer base and premium income grow, which is why performance is measured against clear sales targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Prospect for and qualify new business opportunities, then manage each lead through to a completed sale rather than letting it stall after first contact.
- Convert prospects into active customers and grow the overall client base through consistent acquisition activity.
- Present, sell, and cross-sell the company's insurance products, identifying where an existing client needs additional or complementary cover.
- Partner with branch staff and colleagues in other departments to surface and pursue joint business opportunities.
- Track upcoming policy renewals, follow up with policyholders ahead of expiry, and take action to reduce lapses and retain business.
- Keep a current, well-organised record of prospects, clients, live opportunities, and pending follow-ups so nothing is lost between interactions.
- Listen to what each customer actually needs and recommend cover that addresses those needs.
- Monitor your own pipeline, activity, and closed business against assigned targets, and contribute to wider initiatives aimed at expanding the customer base and growing revenue.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Business, Marketing, Sales, or a closely related discipline.
- A professional insurance, marketing, or sales qualification such as ECOP, COP, or ACII is an added advantage.
- Training from the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) or the College of Insurance is also an advantage.
- Prior experience in insurance business development, sales, customer acquisition, or relationship management is preferred.
- Demonstrated strength in business development and selling, backed by solid knowledge of insurance products and the wider insurance market.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills — you will be dealing with customers and internal stakeholders daily.
- Target-driven mindset, with a track record of meeting and exceeding sales objectives.
- Able to collaborate and coordinate effectively with a team while also working independently with minimal supervision.
- Analytically minded and commercially aware, with sound planning, reporting, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Proven capability in client relationship management and in building business from the ground up.
