Role Overview
Lead the daily management of tilapia broodstock, from sorting, sexing and pond allocation through conditioning, transfers and performance monitoring. The role combines hands-on fish and pond operations with inventory control, reporting and team leadership to support reliable broodstock supply, strong fish welfare and effective production planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee broodstock sorting and sexing from the agreed fish size onward, applying standard procedures and keeping the lake clear of fish awaiting processing.
- Maintain appropriate male-to-female ratios and stocking numbers and densities in each pond; organize recounts and complete any necessary adjustments or top-ups within the planned 3.5-day period.
- Give newly approved and improved broodstock cohorts priority for selection and stocking, and ensure fish are handled, transported and stocked with minimal stress.
- Prepare broodstock for transfer to production ponds by monitoring condition and working with the pipeline team on health, nutrition, feeding and readiness.
- Maintain a current broodstock inventory that records each group’s quantity, location, age and status, with a traceable record of every movement; investigate and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Monitor pond stocking levels, survival, mortalities and fish performance; coordinate scheduled flipping plans, maintain safe and efficient pond operations, and act on emerging production risks.
- Coordinate broodstock availability forecasts with the pipeline team, provide a six-month projection and work with water quality, fish health, feeding and hatchery colleagues to support performance.
- Produce a weekly management report covering inventory and transfers, stocking density, sex ratios, water quality, mortality, conditioning, pond results and compliance with SOPs and flipping schedules.
- Lead monthly performance reviews and departmental meetings by the fourth of each month; support supervisors in completing team discussions, track KPIs, set improvement actions and review departmental measures quarterly.
- Coach and develop staff, reinforce SOP and biosecurity compliance, promote accountability and teamwork, and identify practical improvements to productivity, welfare, inventory accuracy and operating efficiency.
- Manage departmental supplies and equipment, maintaining suitable stocks of consumables and ensuring assets are accounted for.
