Role Overview
As Assistant Field Sales Manager, you work hand in hand with the Field Sales Manager to grow sales across an assigned territory, largely by building and strengthening the team of commission-based Field Agents who sell on the ground. Much of your week is spent out in the market — sitting in on agent visits, sharpening how they pitch, and turning what you see into practical coaching. This role matters because the area's results depend on whether its agents are properly recruited, trained and kept motivated, and you are the person closest to making that happen.
Key Responsibilities
- Work alongside the Field Sales Manager to deliver the area's sales targets, tracking agent-level performance and raising issues before they become missed numbers.
- Recruit, onboard and train new Field Agents so that every recruit understands the product range, the sales conversation and the day-to-day expectations of the role.
- Accompany agents on field visits, observing how they engage customers and providing immediate coaching, feedback and hands-on support.
- Follow up with individual agents on their performance, helping those who are struggling to close the gap through targeted guidance and encouragement.
- Keep a close read on the local market — how customers are behaving, which products are moving, and what competitors are doing — and pass timely, accurate feedback to management.
- Identify untapped sales opportunities in the territory and contribute practical ideas for lead generation and local growth.
- Team up with colleagues across the sales function to plan and execute local sales initiatives and campaigns.
- Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for Field Agents, making sure they have the tools, information and backing they need to sell effectively.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least 2 years of experience in sales or micro-finance, ideally gained in rural markets.
- Experience supporting, coaching or managing a sales team is a distinct advantage.
- Strong leadership presence paired with solid interpersonal skills — you should be comfortable motivating commission-based agents and holding them to standards.
- The ability to plan, think strategically and then act decisively to reach agreed outcomes.
- A diploma in a relevant field is preferred.
- Readiness to spend a substantial share of your working time in the field with agents and customers.
Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply for this position.
