You will be responsible for executing bank reconciliations, posting customer payments, and filing statutory tax returns—directly supporting the Financial Controller in maintaining financial integrity and regulatory compliance. The role is critical for preventing cash discrepancies, managing staff accounts, and ensuring the organisation meets its tax obligations on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily bank reconciliations, producing weekly summaries for review by the Financial Controller and posting swift statements, bank charges, and commissions in the ERP system.
- Manage staff account balances in SAP, flagging any amounts older than one month to HR for recovery, and ensure customer payment postings occur the same day.
- Work with the credit control team to reset customer credit limits when cheques are returned unpaid, and maintain a daily log of unpaid cheques for follow-up with sales managers and leadership.
- Monitor bank charges against agreed tariffs, identify overcharges, and escalate for timely resolution; validate and post bank charges weekly.
- Handle petty cash through expense vouchers, monthly Mpesa-to-SAP reconciliations, cash disbursements, and reimbursements—ensuring all IOUs comply with company policy.
- Verify cash sales receipts against Mpesa statements before confirming debit notes for collection, and safeguard company valuables including post-dated cheques, cheque books, and title documents.
- Prepare and file VAT, excise duty, and withholding tax returns via iTax, ensuring payments are made before deadlines; reconcile tax GL control accounts to returns and manage the iTax ledger to clear penalties and interest.
- Prepare monthly statutory and non-statutory deduction schedules, obtain approval, and settle by the 9th of each month; respond to KRA tax queries as needed.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, and at least a CPA 2 qualification.
- Proven hands-on experience with SAP ERP, particularly in the accounts payable cycle and general ledger reconciliation.
- Solid understanding of Kenyan tax regulations including VAT, excise duty, and withholding tax—both filing and compliance procedures.
- Strong analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and reconciliation work.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure while maintaining high integrity and trustworthiness.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for cross-departmental collaboration with credit control, sales, and HR teams.
- Demonstrated initiative, time management, and customer focus; experience negotiating with banking partners is an advantage.
