Job Description

Role Overview

This role drives the full lifecycle of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems for a major school construction project. Day to day, you coordinate design teams, contractors, and internal stakeholders to keep every MEPF package aligned with specifications, budget, and schedule. The work matters because these systems are critical to the building’s safety, energy performance, and long-term operability—directly supporting a net-zero commitment and a quality learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define the scope, budget, and design intent for all MEPF systems, performing cost estimates and design coordination across disciplines.
  • Lead the tendering process—from prequalification and bid analysis to contractor selection and contract award.
  • Review contractor bill of quantities, submittals, quality assurance documents, and variation claims to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Carry out regular site inspections to verify equipment installation, performance, and safety compliance against approved plans and codes.
  • Coordinate resource planning, labour allocation, supplier deliveries, and subcontractor work to maintain project milestones.
  • Manage snagging, commissioning, validation, and final room readiness, followed by a defects list during the one-year liability period.
  • Track and report greenhouse gas emissions as part of the organisation’s net-zero target, integrating sustainable practices into MEPF delivery.
  • Maintain thorough documentation, attend coordination and progress meetings, and prepare periodic reports on schedule, safety, and performance metrics.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Degree in MEP, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: Minimum 6 years in MEPF design and/or construction, including at least 4 years as a package manager on construction projects (preference for educational facility projects).
  • Track record: Demonstrated ability to manage MEPF systems from design through operational handover, including commissioning and defect resolution.
  • Technical knowledge: Familiarity with British Standards (BS codes), local Kenyan building regulations, and quality assurance programmes in construction.
  • Software proficiency: Competent in AutoCAD, Revit, Visio, MS Project, and standard project management tools.
  • Languages: Strong command of English and a local Kenyan language (e.g., Swahili) for effective communication with all project stakeholders.
  • Core skills: Excellent planning, analytical, and problem-solving abilities; proven capacity to coordinate multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and consultants.
  • Safety focus: Experience enforcing safety procedures, conducting risk assessments, and managing emergency situations on site.
  • Sustainability (preferred): Background in sustainable building practices and greenhouse gas tracking.
