Role Overview
This position sits within the Finance Operations team and is built around keeping a high volume of financial transactions accurate, traceable, and closed out on time. Day to day, you will reconcile bank and general ledger accounts, chase down unallocated receipts and suspense balances, and keep payment and advance records clean so that the wider business can rely on the numbers it is working from. The role matters because unresolved exceptions and unreconciled balances stall decision-making, delay month-end, and weaken the control environment the organisation depends on.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliations and clear any reconciling items promptly rather than letting them carry forward.
- Investigate unallocated receipts, suspense items, and other transactional exceptions, resolving them within agreed turnaround times.
- Carry out general ledger reconciliations and keep supporting schedules for assigned accounts accurate and up to date.
- Support the month-end close process, including ensuring prepaid schedules are expensed correctly.
- Process approved claims and operational payments in line with delegated authority limits and internal controls.
- Monitor staff travel advances, account for them correctly, and recover outstanding balances on schedule.
- Liaise with banks to arrange the bid bonds and performance guarantees requested by Business Development teams.
- Contribute to Finance Operations improvement and automation work, and take on other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting, or an equivalent qualification.
- A minimum of one year of hands-on experience in a comparable finance or accounting role.
- CPA Part 1 completed.
- Technical and functional competencies: working knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and financial accounting practice.
- Demonstrated ability in accounts analysis and reconciliation.
- Strong analytical capability, including the confidence to question the status quo using quantitative facts and their impact.
- Report writing skills, with the ability to develop clear and usable reports.
