Role Overview
This role maintains reliable records for hospital inventory and fixed assets, from medical supplies and consumables to property, plant and equipment. By coordinating counts, reviewing transactions and keeping subsidiary records aligned with the general ledger, the postholder helps protect assets across the hospital and its clusters and supports financial reporting in line with IFRS.
Key Responsibilities
- Reconcile the fixed asset register and stock control balances to the general ledger before each monthly close, investigating and resolving differences.
- Review supporting documents and enter capital expenditure invoices in the ERP system, checking asset descriptions, classifications, costs and depreciation rates.
- Organise and schedule inventory counts, fixed asset verification and tagging exercises with relevant teams; circulate quarterly count schedules and follow up on variances and corrective actions.
- Assess requests for inventory adjustments and confirm that their rationale and approvals meet policy and delegated approval requirements before processing.
- Ensure new fixed assets are tagged before capitalisation, and maintain accurate records of additions and disposals.
- Review asset disposals each month, verify their compliance and accounting treatment under company policy and IFRS, and update the disposal register and asset records.
- Calculate and post monthly depreciation by asset group, checking the accuracy of the resulting accounting entries.
- Track stock in transit with stock controllers, analyse monthly inventory reports, support audits, and contribute to controls that protect stock and help manage inventory levels and holding costs.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Commerce, Business Administration or a related discipline.
- CPA II qualification.
- At least four years of general accounting experience in a busy accounting department.
- Good command of accounting principles, including the application of IFRS to fixed assets and inventory.
