Key Responsibilities
Design & Technical Delivery
- Lead mechanical design from concept stage, including preparation of Concept Design Reports and Basis of Design (BoD) documents.
- Develop and coordinate schematic and detailed designs, calculations, specifications, and schedules for HVAC, plumbing, drainage, fire protection, LPG, and associated systems.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable standards (BS/EN, NFPA, ASHRAE, Kenyan Building Code) and project briefs.
- Support tender documentation, respond to technical tender queries, and assist with tender evaluations.
- Coordinate mechanical designs with architectural, structural, electrical, and specialist disciplines.
Project Delivery & Site Supervision
- Take responsibility for mechanical services delivery from tender award through construction.
- Carry out and lead site supervision activities to verify installations against approved designs and specifications.
- Attend site and technical meetings and act as the primary mechanical contact on site.
- Identify non-compliances, issue inspection reports, and recommend corrective actions for approval by the Director.
Technical Review & Coordination
- Review contractor shop drawings, material submissions, method statements, RFIs, and technical proposals prior to approval by the Director / Head of Mechanical Services.
- Assist in resolving design and site-related technical issues.
- Provide technical guidance and oversight to junior engineers and site staff.
Quality Assurance, Testing & Handover
- Implement and adhere to the firm’s QA/QC procedures across design and construction stages.
- Witness and coordinate testing and commissioning of mechanical systems.
- Review commissioning results, as-built documentation, and O&M manuals.
- Support practical completion inspections and defects liability management.
Commercial & Reporting Support
- Assist with review of contractor valuations, variations, and mechanical cost appraisals.
- Prepare technical reports, inspection reports, and progress updates.
- Update drawings for approved minor design changes.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.
- Registered with the Engineer’s Board of Kenya
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in building services engineering, preferably within an MEP consultancy firm.
- Strong knowledge of BS/EN, NFPA, ASHRAE, and local regulations.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit is mandatory.
Salary: Ksh. 70,000 - Ksh. 80,000
