IEBC Job Vacancies: Trainers, Presiding Officers and Polling Clerks

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) invites applications from qualified Kenyan citizens for temporary positions to support the conduct of upcoming by-elections. Successful candidates must be available for the full election period and will undergo mandatory training.

Available Positions

1. Support Electoral Trainer (SET)

Daily Wage: KSh 2,000

Duties:

  • Assist in training Presiding Officers, Deputy Presiding Officers, and Clerks

  • Train on polling, counting, and tallying procedures

  • Supervise cascaded training sessions

  • Prepare training venues and materials

  • Compile training reports

  • Ensure security and distribution of electoral training materials

2. Presiding Officer (PO)

Daily Wage: KSh 2,000

Duties:

  • Act as the overall in-charge of a polling station

  • Set up and manage polling station operations

  • Ensure KIEMS kit is fully charged and functional

  • Maintain law and order at the polling station

  • Officially open and close polling

  • Transmit election results electronically

  • Safeguard all election materials

3. Deputy Presiding Officer (DPO)

Daily Wage: KSh 1,800

Duties:

  • Deputise the Presiding Officer

  • Support the Presiding Officer in all polling station activities

4. Polling / Counting Clerk

Daily Wage: KSh 1,000

Duties:

  • Report to the Presiding Officer

  • Set up the polling station

  • Manage and control voter queues

  • Check voters’ fingers for indelible ink

  • Verify voter identification

  • Issue stamped ballot papers

  • Assist in sorting and counting of votes after polling

Minimum Requirements

All applicants must:

  • Be Kenyan citizens of high integrity and non-partisan

  • Be residents of the constituency or county assembly ward applied for

  • Be available for the entire electoral exercise

Additional role-specific requirements:

  • Support Electoral Trainer, Presiding Officer, Deputy Presiding Officer:

    • Degree or Diploma from a recognised institution

    • Computer literacy

    • Good communication and people management skills

  • Polling / Counting Clerk:

    • KCSE certificate with an aggregate grade of C- and above
