Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership and Personnel Management
- Direct and coordinate the activities of the entire construction crew, including in-house staff and subcontractors, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and according to plan.
- Plan daily and weekly work schedules, assign specific duties to workers based on their skills and project needs, and monitor attendance and performance.
- Provide on-the-job training and guidance to less experienced workers on construction methods, safety procedures, and company policies, fostering professional development and a culture of improvement.
- Proactively identify and resolve conflicts or issues that may arise among the team, maintaining high morale and a positive, collaborative work environment.
- Evaluate the caliber of the work being done by individual craft professionals and the overall team, providing continuous feedback for improvement.
Project Execution and Quality Control
- Read, interpret, and explain blueprints, plans, and technical specifications to the crew, ensuring all work is executed accurately to design and building codes.
- Conduct regular site inspections to ensure all work meets stringent quality standards and project specifications, addressing any deviations promptly to prevent costly rework.
- Apply in-depth, hands-on knowledge of construction procedures, especially in concrete work, masonry, and plumbing, to guide the team and troubleshoot technical problems in real-time.
- Respond quickly and effectively to unforeseen challenges, equipment breakdowns, or scheduling changes, making sound decisions to keep the project on track.
Safety and Compliance
- Champion a safety-first culture by enforcing strict adherence to all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations and company safety policies.
- Lead daily safety “toolbox talks” and conduct regular site and equipment inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure all personnel are using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Document and report any incidents, accidents, or near-misses immediately and assist in implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure all operations comply with local and national regulatory requirements, including the National Construction Authority (NCA) guidelines (where applicable).
Resource and Cost Management
- Coordinate the ordering, delivery, storage, and optimal use of materials, tools, and heavy equipment, minimizing waste and preventing project delays.
- Monitor expenditures, tracking labor hours and material costs to help ensure the project remains within the allocated budget.
- Maintain accurate daily site records, including progress reports, daily logs, material usage sheets, and safety documentation, and communicate project status to project managers and stakeholders.
Key Requirement Skills And Qualification
- Proven experience in gardening, landscaping, or grounds maintenance
- Degree or Diploma in Building & Construction, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- A minimum of 7-10 years of proven experience in construction supervision, specifically managing residential or commercial projects
- In-depth knowledge of construction procedures, methods, and equipment. Hands-on expertise in concrete work, masonry, plumbing, and general commercial project installations
- Strong leadership, integrity, and exceptional team supervision skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a large workforce
Salary: Ksh. 50,000 - Ksh. 60,000
