Construction Project Management Intern

Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Job Overview

We are seeking a motivated and dynamic Construction Project Management Intern to join our team in Nairobi. This role is ideal for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in the construction industry, specifically in project management. The intern will assist in various tasks and projects, gaining insights into the intricacies of managing construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, organizing, and managing construction projects under the supervision of senior project managers.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Assist in preparing project documentation, including reports, plans, and schedules.
  • Support in the coordination of project resources, including labor, materials, and equipment.
  • Participate in project meetings and contribute to discussions on project progress and challenges.

Project Planning & Coordination:

  • Support the Project Manager in planning and scheduling project activities.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and suppliers to ensure timely project execution.
  • Assist in monitoring project timelines, deliverables, and resource allocation.

Site Supervision & Quality Control:

  • Participate in regular site inspections to ensure work meets project specifications and safety standards.
  • Track progress and report any deviations from plans or schedules.
  • Assist in resolving on-site issues and liaising with contractors and supervisors.

Budgeting & Documentation:

  • Assist in preparation of project budgets, cost estimates, and procurement plans.
  • Maintain accurate project records including reports, drawings, and correspondence.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports for management review.

Health, Safety & Compliance:

  • Ensure adherence to occupational health and safety regulations on site.
  • Support implementation of company and regulatory compliance requirements.

Communication & Coordination:

  • Facilitate smooth communication among internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Attend project meetings and prepare minutes and follow-up action points.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering, Building Economics, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of construction project management principles.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project).
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • At least 1 year of practical experience in construction project coordination, site supervision, or a similar role (including attachment/internship experience)
  • Good understanding of construction project workflows, scheduling, and cost management.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Project) and basic knowledge of AutoCAD or similar software.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
