Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking Poultry Farm Hand to join our team in Kirinyaga, Kenya. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in agricultural and poultry farming practices, with the ability to supervise daily farm operations effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the daily operations of the poultry farm, ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently.
- Monitor the health and well-being of poultry, identifying any signs of illness or distress.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards within the farm premises.
- Feed and water poultry according to prescribed schedules.
- Assist in the collection and packaging of eggs.
- Supervise farm activities and report any issues to the farm manager.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Feed, water, and monitor poultry daily to ensure optimal health and productivity.
- Clean poultry housing regularly to maintain high hygiene standards.
- Collect, grade, and record egg production data (if layers are present).
- Assist in vaccination and disease control programs for poultry.
- Observe and report any signs of illness or distress in animals promptly.
- Participate in planting, weeding, pruning, irrigating, and harvesting of crops.
- Apply fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides as directed.
- Assist in soil preparation and general field maintenance.
- Supervise casual workers during peak farming periods (planting, harvesting, etc.).
- Ensure tasks are completed efficiently and to expected quality standards.
- Report progress, issues, or irregularities to the Farm Manager promptly.
- Operate and maintain farm tools and simple machinery.
- Carry out general farm maintenance (e.g., fencing, cleaning storage areas).
- Assist in farm record keeping related to livestock and crop production.
Requirements
- Diploma or High/Secondary School education in a relevant field.
- 2 years' experience in agricultural or poultry farming.
- Strong supervisory skills with the ability to lead and motivate a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Knowledge of health and safety practices in a farm setting.
- Proven ability to supervise and guide casual workers
- Physically fit, hardworking, and able to work long hours outdoors
- Honest, disciplined, and dependable with a strong work ethic
- Willingness to live on the farm and commit to long-term employment
