Job Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Customer Interaction and Service Excellence

  • Greet customers warmly upon arrival and create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
  • Respond to customer inquiries, resolve complaints promptly, and provide assistance in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Guide customers on products, services, or promotions to enhance their shopping experience.

Transaction Processing

  • Accurately handle cash, mobile money (e.g., M-Pesa), credit/debit card payments, and voucher transactions.
  • Operate the Point of Sale (POS) system efficiently to scan items, process sales, and issue receipts.
  • Ensure all sales transactions are recorded correctly and any price discrepancies are flagged and resolved.

Cash Handling and Reconciliation

  • Open and close the till/register at the beginning and end of each shift, ensuring accurate float management.
  • Count, reconcile, and document cash in the drawer to match sales records daily.
  • Safely store cash and submit collections to the accounts/finance department or designated custodian.

Record Keeping and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of daily transactions, receipts, refunds, and other financial data.
  • Assist in preparing daily sales summaries and hand over relevant reports to the supervisor or accountant.
  • Flag and report any discrepancies or suspicious transactions immediately for investigation.

Compliance and Policy Adherence

  • Follow all company procedures for handling cash, customer service, and transaction documentation.
  • Adhere to health, safety, and cleanliness standards, ensuring the cashier area is always neat and tidy.
  • Ensure secure handling of confidential customer and company information.

Inventory and Stock Support

  • Monitor and report low stock items or fast-moving goods to supervisors for timely restocking.
  • Participate in periodic stock counts and help with labelling or arranging items when required.
  • Inform customers of stock availability or delays in service where applicable.

Collaboration and Teamwork

  • Work closely with sales staff, supervisors, and other team members to ensure seamless customer service.
  • Support colleagues during peak hours, promotions, or special events.
  • Attend briefings, training sessions, or meetings as scheduled by management.

Upholding Professional Image

  • Maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and professional grooming.
  • Represent the company positively at all times through behaviours, communication, and appearance.
  • Handle customer information with discretion, maintaining privacy and trust.

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

  • Diploma or Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • At least 1-2 years of proven experience in a cashier or similar role
  • Proficiency in operating POS systems and handling various forms of payment
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles is a strong advantage
  • Muslim ladies are encouraged to apply
