Description: LVCT Health is an indigenous Kenyan non-governmental and not-for-profit organization established in 2001. We are driving Kenya towards HIV prevention, with an ultimate goal of reducing HIV infections to zero. We offer integrated HIV services through development of models that are scaled up to the national models. We also carry out sexual and reproductive health research - translating our research to policy and practice; providing evidence for HIV policy reforms and service delivery; and developing capacities of indigenous organizations in building sustainable human resources for community HIV Prevention. We give special attention to those with greatest vulnerability to infection and with special service needs - including survivors of sexual violence, persons living with disabilities, men who have sex with men, Youth and Sex Workers. Our offices are in Nairobi, Western Region, Eastern and Central Region and Rift Valley.
Job Description

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Overall management of schools.
  • Planning & coordinating school activities in consultation with BOM, PA, teachers, learners and education managers.
  • Oversee the implementation of curriculum especially CBC.
  • Management and maintenance of school infrastructure and resources.
  • Create a safe environment for learning by promoting CFS policy, CP&SG policy and adherence to TSC and organizational code of conduct. 
  • Management of school finances in accordance with organizational policies and values.
  • Coordination with the M.O.E., UNHCR and partners to ensure provision of quality pre and primary education.
  • Management of staff.
  • Ensure equal distribution of teaching and learning resources to teachers and leaners.
  • Classroom teaching.
  • Timely preparation and submission of reports (weekly, monthly, situational and termly reports). 
  • Promote high standard of discipline.
  • Admission of learners-promote inclusiveness and equity.
  • Custodian of school records.
  • Secretary to BOM.
  • Promote education for girls.
  • Promote education technology.
  • Oversee internal and external assessments (formative and summative).
  • Create awareness on emerging issues e.g. GBV, PSEA, FGM HIV/AIDS, early pregnancies and drug abuse.
  • Oversee implementation of psychosocial support.
  • Promote linkages between teachers, parents and the community.
  • Oversee the school’s meals program and teachers’ lunches.
  • Chair staff meetings.
  • Oversee election of children’s government.
  • Oversee administration of national exams.
  • Assigning duties and responsibilities to teachers.
  • Oversee formation of and adherence to school rules and regulations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Deputy head teachers
  • Teacher tutors
  • Teachers
  • School support staff.

Education/Professional Designations/Experience:

  • Must have at least a P1 teacher training certificate or a Degree in Education (Arts, Sciences) from a recognized university or teacher training college.
  • Must be registered as a teacher by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) with a valid TSC registration certificate.
  • Must have served as primary school teacher in a refugee camp set up or in an informal settlement either rural or urban for a minimum period of three (3) years.
  • Demonstrate ability to supervise, mentor and provide professional support to other teachers; 
  • Experience in a similar role will an added advantage.
