What is GALVmed? • A Livestock health Product development & adoption Partnership organisation • A not-for-profit Public-Private Partnership - registered charity • Pro-poor focused: working with key partners to make a sustainable difference in access to animal health products for poor livestock keepers • Currently supported by the UK Government’s Department for International Development (DFID) and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, with projects having been funded by the European Commission & BBSRC. What does GALVmed do? We make available and facilitate adoption of livestock health products by poor livestock keepers. We do this by: • Intervention in all necessary links of the value chain including: • Product development, registration, manufacture, distribution, commercialisation and delivery to the end user • Building capacity (upstream and downstream) • Market development and adoption by creation of sustainable value chains • Understanding and influencing policy to enable the above • Advocating for livestock as a route out of poverty Purpose: Protecting Livestock - Improving Human Lives Mission: To make a real difference to the livelihoods of resource-poor livestock keepers by facilitating provision of animal health tools, within a sustainable economic framework Vision: Better livestock health contributing to a transformational improvement in the livelihoods of poor livestock keepers
Job Description
About the Role
- The purpose of the role of GALVmed’s Senior Director, Enabling Environment & Partner Engagement, is to provide strategic and process-driven stakeholder and partner engagement with the aim to co-create a powerful enabling environment providing solutions to complex livestock health issues.
- An apt negotiator, facilitator and strategic coalition builder, the Senior Director will have a deep understanding of the livestock ecosystem in sub-Saharan Africa, analyse trends, identify interests and synergies, and implement key institutional and strategic partnership initiatives that drive change in the dynamic livestock market system.
- The Senior Director will initiate collaborations aimed at catalysing policy change and unlocking systemic value chain barriers, provide overall external stewardship, aligning partnerships and advocacy efforts with GALVmed’s vision and mission, and delivering and building on GALVmeds current “2030 Strategy”.
Minimum Requirements:
- University degree in a relevant field (e.g. International Development studies, Agricultural Development, International & Public Affairs, Corporate Communication).
- A minimum of 8 years of advocacy / policy experience.
- Experience working in, and understanding of, the not-for-profit sector and of development work in Africa.
- Proven track record in facilitation, stakeholder engagement and partnership building.
- Proven track record of communicating with high level business and public sector executives, policymakers and thought leaders.
- Proven track record in coalition-building and working in a team environment with disparate functions and goals.
- Excellent team leader with project management skills and the ability to set and manage competing priorities.
