JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant GBV Project Officer will support the implementation of prevention, awareness-raising, and response initiatives on gender-based violence (GBV) at the field level. The role will involve assisting with activity coordination, community mobilization, capacity building, stakeholder engagement, and project monitoring, working closely with the County Government, community structures, and key stakeholders to ensure effective delivery of GBV interventions.
SCOPE OF THE ROLE:
Provide field-level operational support for GBV project activities.
Support community outreach, mobilization, and capacity-building efforts.
Assist in data collection, reporting, and knowledge management.
Support stakeholder coordination and advocacy efforts.
Facilitate referrals and survivor-centred response for GBV survivors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technical support for the project
Assist in the day-to-day implementation of GBV project activities in alignment with work plans.
Support community sensitization and awareness sessions on GBV prevention and response.
Assist in preparing and distributing IEC and BCC materials to volunteers, CHPs, and health workers.
Participate in mapping of service providers and strengthening referral pathways for GBV survivors.
Support training and mentorship activities for volunteers, CHPs, and health care workers on GBV prevention and response.
Quality assurance
Adhere to KRCS, MoH, and donor policies and guidelines during project implementation.
Support compliance with safeguarding, protection, gender, and inclusion standards.
Networking and coordination
Support the GBV Project Officer in strengthening coordination with government departments, civil society organizations, and community-based structures to prevent, mitigate, and respond to GBV.
Assist in fostering partnerships at the county and community levels to promote gender equality, protection, and inclusion through community-based approaches.
Participate in relevant meetings, workshops, and technical working groups on GBV as delegated.
Help maintain updated contact lists of partners, service providers, and key stakeholders to enhance collaboration and referral systems.
Program Monitoring and Evaluation
Collect and compile activity data and submit timely reports to the GBV Project Officer.
Assist in monitoring project progress, identifying challenges, and proposing solutions.
Support documentation of good practices, lessons learnt, and case studies for knowledge sharing.
Key Competencies:
Basic knowledge of GBV prevention, mitigation, and response strategies.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage community members respectfully.
Good communication and presentation skills in English and Kiswahili.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Basic skills in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Commitment to survivor-centred and gender-sensitive programming.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Diploma or Degree in Gender and Development, Social Sciences, Community Development, or related field.
At least 2 years’ experience in GBV-related or community development programs, preferably with an NGO or MoH.
Experience in community mobilization, outreach, and basic data collection.
Understanding of safeguarding, gender, and protection principles is an added advantage.
Demonstrated knowledge of gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in humanitarian programming.
Demonstrated knowledge of and implementation of multi-sectoral responses to GBV.
Demonstrated experience in the field of GBV prevention, mitigation, and response.
Project management skills, including Project Monitoring and Evaluation, and Reporting.
