Our client, a well-established sisal plantation with operations in Kenya and Tanzania is currently seeking to recruit an Assistant Production Manager to be based in their Kibwezi plant.
The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing daily farming operations. They must be a practical individual, understanding agricultural machinery and crop husbandry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect all fields related to Sisal production with an intensive crop scouting program and advise the Production Manager through a weekly crop report.
- Supervise the planting, spraying, harvesting & any other operations related to Sisal production as advised by the Production Manager – Sisal.
- Where necessary identify and train a Crop scouting team and maintain a systematic program going forward.
- Prepare monthly management reports for the GM and Production manager in the format specified, with an emphasis on KPIs.
- Assist in the Management and maintenance in all equipment and buildings associated with sisal operations.
- Ensure plant, machinery, and vehicles are maintained in good/safe working order and are serviced as required. Monitor replacement requirements.
- Take responsibility for health and safety in seed potato operations, ensuring
Qualifications
- A degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Science, or a related field would be beneficial
- Previous experience in agricultural production or farm management
- Knowledge of crop scouting techniques, planting, spraying, harvesting practices, and general agricultural operations.
- Familiarity with budgeting, reporting, and staff management systems would also be important.
- Experience in coordinating work programs, assigning responsibilities, and ensuring productivity would be necessary.
- Understanding of health and safety regulations in agricultural settings and the ability to enforce safe working practices and standards.
- Must have a driving licence and be able to ride a motorbike as well.
