Position Summary
The purpose of the Daycare Supervisor role is to oversee the daily operations of the main campus daycare/ Early Childhood Development Center and serve as the Head Teacher for the enrolled children. Duties include developing educational programs and recreational activities and supervising the teacher and childminder.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise, orient, schedule, and evaluate childcare staff and teachers.
Ensure that recipients of childcare services meet the enrollment criteria by collaborating with the Senior Manager-GEP regarding participants’ eligibility, selection, enrollment, medical issues and any other special cases.
Maintain the Daycare program in a manner that meets set conventional requirements including sanitation, safety, fire and other regulations ensuring the facility is a safe and a fun place for children to learn and provides the best possible experience.
In collaboration with the Senior Manager - GEP, prepare a long-term plan for sustaining and expanding on-campus childcare services.
Develop both long- and short-term lesson plans based on the curriculum and philosophy/values of the organization.
Develop educational programs that adhere to childcare standards, and schedule academic and recreational activities.
Collaborate with the Senior Manager -GEP to find formal schools and enroll children graduating from the Daycare program.
Advocate for Daycare needs through the Senior Manager -GEP to potential supporters/partners through the Executive Team.
Prepare, manage and monitor the Daycare budget and administer funds for activities.
Under the supervision of the Senior Manager-GEP, develop and revise Daycare policies, procedures and handbooks.
Ensure that all children have proper paperwork on file, including their health information, allergies, details of any medical conditions they suffer from and authorization from the parents for taking any photos or videos of the child.
Provide information and support to families whose children are enrolled in the Daycare, including referrals to support agencies and parenting/family counselling resources.
Serve as the liaison with parents, other programs staff, visitors, ministry staff and partners/donors.
Organise program evaluation activities to meet set service delivery standards and state requirements.
Report any suspected cases of child abuse to the Senior Manager – GEP and keep records of any reported abuse and the response of the investigator.
Qualifications and Competencies
Education requirements:
KCSE Certificate.
Diploma in Early Childhood Development & Education (ECDE).
Related experience:
3 years of teaching experience.
One year’s experience working with children between 3 months and 3 years of age, either in a safe house, day care set up, or children’s home.
Knowledge of safeguarding and other child protection issues.
Qualification in First Aid preferable.
Technical and behavioral skills:
Excellent communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
Report writing and data collection.
Good judgment and the ability to respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies.
Able to develop good relationships with colleagues, children, and girl mothers.
Calm and patient.
Creative and innovative.
