The tremor occurred at a shallow depth of 2.3km at 12:35pm but was not felt by residents and caused no impact across the UAE.
This comes just a day after a 2.2 magnitude quake was recorded in Oman’s Madha region, and earlier this month a 3.5 quake in Al Sila that was lightly felt. While the UAE is not in a high-risk earthquake zone, minor tre_mors do occur occasionally due to its proximity to the seismically active Zagros mountain range.
Experts explain that although strong earthquakes usually strike far away in Iran or Iraq, small tre_mors can sometimes be felt in the northern parts of the UAE. The NCM continues to monitor and record these events as part of its seismic safety measures.
