Recently, a candidate came in for one position, but as the conversation unfolded, it became clear their experience and strengths aligned even more strongly with another team my colleague was working with. It wasn’t something they had considered — and that’s often the case when people only see themselves through the lens of the job description.
After speaking with the other hiring manager, I asked the candidate if they’d be open to their profile being shared. The answer was an easy yes — and the relief and excitement from the candidate in that moment said everything.
