Apple is reportedly working on a new feature for the App Store that will allow developers to offer subscription bundles. This change means you might soon be able to buy multiple app subscriptions together at a lower price. It’s a big shift for both app makers and iPhone users.
Subscription bundles let developers group two or more app subscriptions into one package. Instead of paying for each app separately, you pay one fee for the whole bundle. For example, a fitness app could bundle its workout program with a meal planner app. You get both for less than buying them separately.
The move is designed to help developers increase revenue and keep users engaged. It also makes it easier for you to manage subscriptions. Apple wants to stay competitive with Google Play, which already offers similar bundle options.
Apple will likely handle billing and revenue sharing the same way it does for regular subscriptions. Developers keep 70% to 85% of the revenue, depending on the plan.
Subscription bundles offer clear advantages:
For app creators, bundles can boost customer loyalty. If a user buys a bundle, they’re more likely to stick with the entire set of apps. Developers can also cross-promote their apps within bundles. However, they must ensure the bundle offers real value, or users may not buy it.
Not everything is perfect. Some developers worry that bundles could reduce their individual subscription revenue. Others fear that Apple’s commission fees might eat into profits. Apple has not yet announced the exact revenue split for bundles.
Apple hasn’t confirmed a release date. Industry insiders expect the feature to arrive with a future iOS update, possibly within the next year. Developers will need to update their apps to support bundles.
