Tesla has reported a 14% decline in its second-quarter vehicle deliveries, continuing a troubling trend as the EV giant faces mounting competition and growing backlash against CEO Elon Musk. In Q2 2025, Tesla delivered 384,122 vehicles—down from 443,956 during the same quarter last year. Production stagnation and internal instability at Tesla
Tesla produced 410,244 vehicles in Q2 2025—essentially flat compared to the 410,831 made during the same period in 2024. While the refreshed Model Y was expected to boost numbers, it hasn’t reversed the downward trajectory. Internally, Tesla is facing leadership shakeups, including the recent departure of VP of manufacturing Omead Afshar and the head of its Optimus robot project. These exits point to instability that could further affect production and innovation.
Robotaxi rollout disappoints as future bets falter
Tesla’s highly anticipated robotaxi service also underwhelmed. Despite promises of full autonomy, the vehicles launched with in-car safety monitors and have already drawn criticism over safety lapses. Videos show robotaxis behaving erratically—braking without cause and crossing into oncoming lanes. This failure to deliver on innovation further damages Tesla’s credibility and casts doubt on its ability to lead the future of transportation.
