Spotify Reserved: Top Fans Get First Access to Concert Tickets
May 24 -
What Is Spotify Reserved?
Spotify has unveiled Reserved, a new ticketing system designed to give top fans first priority for purchasing concert tickets. Announced during its Investor Day 2026 briefing, Reserved aims to combat scalpers and ensure genuine fans get fair access to live music. Eligible Spotify Premium subscribers over age 18 in the US can expect the feature to roll out in the next few months, with other countries following.
How Reserved Works
Spotify identifies top fans by analyzing overall activity, including streams, shares, and Premium user behavior. This helps distinguish real fans from bots. If you qualify as a top fan for an artist playing a show near you, Spotify reserves two tickets for you. You then have a dedicated window—typically around a day—to purchase them.
Eligibility Requirements
- Spotify Premium subscription (age 18+ in the US)
- High streaming and sharing activity for the artist
- Location settings enabled to match tour dates
Jump to the Front of the Line
When you become eligible, Spotify sends an email and in-app notification. To avoid missing out, enable notifications for live events, update your app, and turn on location settings. You can buy two tickets in the dedicated timeframe before the general sale opens. If your friends are also top fans, they may receive their own Reserved access.
Ticket Purchase Process
After receiving your notification, you are redirected to a ticketing partner’s website to complete the sale. Not every fan is guaranteed an offer, as venue capacity and tour locations limit availability. However, if you receive an offer, you can select the date, location, and seat for any show on the tour.
Important Notes
- No additional fees—Reserved tickets come without extra charges.
- Ticket type availability varies per show.
- Priority based on tour location—if the tour skips your area, you may not get access.
Fan Engagement Matters
Spotify’s move comes amid growing frustration with scalpers and Ticketmaster’s dynamic pricing. The platform states: “We’re building this to give back to fans who support artists the most—and because when fans and artists win, Spotify does, too.” By rewarding engagement, Spotify hopes to strengthen the live music ecosystem.
Why This Matters for Concertgoers
As a serial concert attendee, the shift in ticket purchasing has been dramatic. Scalpers and controversial pricing methods have made buying tickets anxiety-riddled. Spotify is the first major streaming service to take a direct stance against scalpers, ensuring genuine fans get a fair chance to see their favorite artists live.
Future Expansion
Initially, Reserved applies to recently-announced tours for select artists. Spotify plans to expand the system to tours of any size, making it a staple feature for live music fans.
