Sony Brings Audio Sharing To Its Flagship Noise-Canceling Headphones
Sony brings audio sharing to its flagship noise-canceling headphones through a major firmware update. The update adds new features to the WH-1000XM6 and WF-1000XM5, making them smarter, more social, and more connected. Available now via the Sony Sound Connect mobile app, the upgrade also introduces Google’s Gemini Live AI assistant and Find My integration for earbuds.
Audio Sharing Arrives With Bluetooth LE Auracast
The highlight of the update is Audio Sharing with Fast Pair, powered by Bluetooth LE Audio’s Auracast technology. With a supported Android phone, you can pair two sets of wireless headphones at the same time and share music, movies, or podcasts with a friend.
Sony takes it a step further with group listening. You can create a private broadcast for multiple people, letting them join in with a QR code or through Google Fast Pair. This means parties, study sessions, or workouts can all be powered by one playlist.
Gemini Live AI Assistant Joins The Experience
Another exciting addition is support for Google’s Gemini Live conversational AI assistant. This brings smarter voice control, hands-free commands, and improved interaction while you’re on the go. From managing notifications to answering questions, Gemini Live turns Sony’s headphones into a productivity tool as well as an entertainment device.
Security And Connectivity Enhancements
The update doesn’t stop at fun features. Sony also included improvements to system software security and added support for head tracking while connected over Bluetooth LE Audio. For these features to work properly, you’ll need to re-pair your headphones with your device after installing the update.
Better Tracking For WF-1000XM5 Earbuds
For those using the WF-1000XM5 earbuds, the update expands functionality with Google’s Find My Device network. You can now track each earbud individually—left or right—and even disable Find My support without needing the charging case. This makes it much easier to locate misplaced earbuds without frustration.
Why This Update Matters
Sony’s flagship headphones are already leaders in the market, but this update shows the company’s commitment to keeping them fresh and competitive. By introducing audio sharing, AI integration, and smarter tracking, Sony is transforming its headphones into more than just listening devices—they’re becoming connected lifestyle companions.
If you own the Sony WH-1000XM6 or WF-1000XM5, updating through the Sony Sound Connect app unlocks these new features immediately.
