Rising RAM Costs Are Driving Prebuilt PC Prices Up
Gamers and PC builders may face sticker shock this holiday season as RAM prices surge. Custom PC makers, including CyberPowerPC and Maingear, are already feeling the pinch. With memory costs skyrocketing, companies are re-evaluating the price of their prebuilt systems to keep up with the changing market. If you’ve been planning a PC upgrade, now may be the time to act before prices climb further.
CyberPowerPC Announces System-Wide Price Increases
CyberPowerPC confirmed on X that it will raise prices across all of its gaming PCs starting December 7th. “Recently, global memory (RAM) prices have surged by 500% and SSD prices by 100%,” the company explained. The statement emphasized that these increases directly affect the cost of building high-performance gaming rigs. CyberPowerPC hopes the hikes will be temporary, pending more stable market conditions.
Maingear Delays Price Hikes as Long as Possible
Unlike CyberPowerPC, Maingear is trying to delay passing on these costs to customers. CEO Wallace Santos told Wccftech that his team is monitoring supply and working closely with vendors. “We anticipate prices will continue to rise, and eventually, lead times may extend as stock tightens,” Santos explained. For now, Maingear’s Black Friday deals remain insulated from the price surge.
AI Demand Intensifies Memory Shortages
One major factor behind the volatility is the growing demand for RAM from AI companies. Massive data centers require vast memory and storage, putting pressure on the global supply. This has caused retail outlets to adjust prices in real time, similar to how high-demand products are priced in specialty markets. Shoppers may notice that memory kits are increasingly sold at “market value” rather than fixed retail prices.
Skytech Gaming Also Feels the Pressure
Skytech Gaming, known for both prebuilt and custom systems, reported similar challenges on Facebook. While the company confirmed rising RAM costs, it is unclear if these increases are reflected on its website yet. Like other manufacturers, Skytech is navigating tight supply chains and balancing pricing strategies to maintain competitiveness.
Should You Buy Now or Wait?
Experts suggest that anyone needing a memory or storage upgrade should consider purchasing sooner rather than later. Maingear CEO Wallace Santos warned that shortages may become more pronounced, even though Black Friday deals are currently protected. Planning ahead could save consumers from paying premium prices once supply constraints worsen.
The Market Outlook for RAM
While current memory prices are unusually high, analysts expect the surge to be temporary. CyberPowerPC noted that market conditions may normalize in the coming months, which could bring prices back down. Still, the immediate effect is clear: PC enthusiasts will likely face higher costs in the short term.
Navigating the Prebuilt PC Market in 2025
For gamers and tech buyers, these developments highlight the importance of timing purchases. With multiple companies adjusting prices and supply remaining tight, understanding market trends is crucial. Keeping an eye on announcements from CyberPowerPC, Maingear, and other manufacturers will help buyers make informed decisions before RAM prices dictate the next wave of PC costs.
