A New Way To Control AI On Pinterest
The tuner tool appears under the “Refine your recommendations” section in Pinterest’s settings, specifically in the “GenAI interests” tab. From there, users can choose how much AI-generated content they want to see in categories like beauty, art, fashion, and home décor.
While it’s a step toward transparency, Pinterest’s ‘tuner’ lets you dial down the amount of AI content — but not entirely, since it only applies to certain “eligible image Pins.” So, even after adjustments, you might still see some AI visuals.
How The Pinterest AI ‘Tuner’ Works
Currently, the feature is rolling out to Android and desktop users, with iPhone users expected to get it in the coming weeks. The tuner slider lets users decrease or increase AI influence on their feed—offering a more personalized Pinterest experience without removing AI entirely.
This aligns with Pinterest’s long-standing effort to make its platform feel authentic and safe, especially as AI-generated visuals become more common.
Tackling The AI “Pinfestation”
Back in May, Pinterest introduced an automatic “AI modified” label to mark content created or enhanced by AI. This was the company’s first major attempt to address growing concerns over AI-generated imagery flooding feeds—a problem some users have humorously dubbed a “Pinfestation.”
Now, with Pinterest’s ‘tuner’ lets you dial down the amount of AI content — but not entirely, the company is doubling down on transparency. It’s also improving its AI detection systems and making the AI labels more visible, though specific details remain undisclosed.
Pinterest’s move reflects a broader industry trend: users want more control over algorithmic and AI-driven content. Platforms like TikTok and Instagram have faced similar pressures to give users filtering tools, as generative AI reshapes how media is created and consumed.
Although the tuner can’t fully eliminate AI, it’s a meaningful step toward user empowerment—and a sign Pinterest is listening to growing feedback about authenticity in the age of generative visuals.
