Kipyegon, in an exclusive interview with Capital Sports earlier this year said that since her daughter came into the world in 2018, she literally changed her world and made her a better person.
But, little Alyn will need to ‘run dry’ this time round, as Kipyegon dedicated her 5,000m world title from Budapest to her husband, former athlete and 2012 London Olympics 800m bronze medalist Timothy Kitum.
She says; “Family has always been very close to me and they have really supported me to achieve whatever I have achieved.”
Kipyegon has had a hugely successful year. She has set three world records (1500m, 5,000m and the mile) and in Budapest, laid down another marker with two gold medals in the 1500m and 5,000m.
She has quantified her season as hugely successful and credited this to the close bond she has with her family.
And now, she wants to finish off the season in style, with the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene coming up in under two weeks, before she turns her focus to a road run in Riga, Latvia, to close down her season.
From there, a bit of rest and recovery, then turn her focus to a bigger one next year; the Olympic Games in Paris.
