a) JOB PURPOSE
Analyses and conduct routine and complex hematological, biochemical, serological, molecular, and other laboratory procedures as prescribed by the KMLTTB act to provide results for medical practitioners to diagnose treat and prevent diseases.
b) MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform a variety of technical laboratory procedures including routine and complex hematological, chemistry, serological, molecular, and other laboratory procedures.
- Ensure accurate completion of records and reports.
- Interacts with pathologists / doctors / managers / head of departments and sections on technical matters to provide all relevant data that may pertain to the prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of diseases.
- Adhere to laboratory policy for data retrieval, record keeping, specimen handling, identification and reporting procedures.
- Maintain the highest possible standard of client care by adhering to the hospital standard protocols and guidelines.
c) MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/ QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science from a recognized institution
- At least three (2) years’ relevant work experience in a busy medical laboratory.
- Histological processing/techniques will be added as an advantage.
- Must be registered by the KMLTTB with a Valid Practicing License.
- Training on ISO 15189 implementation or working and/or working in an ISO 15189 accredited Laboratory will be an added advantage.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).

JOB TITLE: MEDICAL OFFICER
REPORTS: MEDICAL OFFICER IN-CHARGE.
a) JOB PURPOSE
To attend to patients in the Outpatient department by offering consultations and performing necessary procedures, stabilize emergencies in the Accident and Emergency and Inpatient department, liaise with consultants in the management of patients in the Inpatient and Outpatient departments.
b) MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attending to any emergencies in the A&E and Out-patient departments
- Attending patients in the In -patient department in conjunction with the consultant.
- Attending direct admissions and doing admissions of patients when deemed necessary.
- Participating in mortality and morbidity audits.
- Diagnosis and management as per protocol.
- Participation in health talks and outreach programs
- Participation in training including weekly CMEs
- Participation in creating clinical SOPs in coordination with resident consultants.

JOB TITLE: PERIOPERATIVE NURSE
REPORTS: THEATRE IN-CHARGE
a) JOB PURPOSE
Providing high standards of Peri-operative care in line with the hospital’s policies and procedures to deliver safe surgical outcomes and achieve patient safety goals.
b) MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Delivering comprehensive perioperative care to patients including but not limited to assessing patient needs, preparing patients for surgery, ensuring patient safety throughout the perioperative period.
- Assist the surgeon in the operating room by handling equipment and surgical instruments, anticipating the surgeon’s needs and maintaining a sterile environment in the operating theatre.
- Conduct perioperative assessment, review medical records and ensure all necessary documents and consents are in order, administer medication as prescribed, alley anxiety and provide emotional support to patients and their family.
- Monitor patient’s vitals assist with anesthesia administration and manage surgical equipment and surgical supplies during the procedure.
- Provide post operative care to patients recovering from surgery including not limited to vital signs monitoring, pain management, incision site and wound care patient and family health education.
- Responding to and reporting abnormal recordings to the person in charge.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including surgeons, anesthesiologists and other perioperative staff to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
- Ensuring proper documentation, maintaining proper records, confidentiality and handing over between shifts.
- Assisting the anesthetist during induction and reversal of anesthesia.
- Implementing emergency procedures including resuscitation as and when necessary.
c) MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/ QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma in Community Health Nursing.
- Higher Diploma in Peri-operative Nursing.
- 2 years of working experience as a nurse and 1 year experience as a Peri-operative nurse.
- A valid BLS and ACLS certification.
- Valid Nursing council license.

JOB TITLE: CRITICAL CARE NURSE
REPORTS: NURSE IN-CHARGE ICU
a) JOB PURPOSE
Providing high standard of nursing care to critically ill patients in line with the hospital’s policies and procedures and accountable for a shift in the section.
b) MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Carry out specific tests, analyze, interpret, troubleshoot, and initiate immediate intervention.
- Engage with doctors and other care providers on a daily basis regarding patients’ Plan of Care and Care solutions with emphasis on a team- based problem-solving approach to provide unified approach to patient care.
- Administering treatment plans to patients as prescribed.
- Relay accurate information to clinical staff on a patient’s condition.
- Responding to and reporting any abnormal recordings to the person in charge.
- Labeling and dispatching specimens to the laboratory promptly and safely.
- Ensure routine duties are done to prepare and clear the ward before admission and after discharge.
- Provide health education to patients and follow up care.
- Address patients’ complaints and emergencies as they arise.
- Carry out patients’ proper orientation within the section.
- Overall supervision of section activities in an assigned shift.
- Mentor junior nurses in the hospital and students attached in the department.
- Any other duty assigned by the supervisor in line with the job description.
c) MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/ QUALIFICATIONS
- Higher Diploma in Critical Care Nursing (KRCCN).
- Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing. A degree in Nursing will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of one (1) year of work experience in a critical care unit post-KRCCN training and licensure and 2 years as a general nurse.
- Valid BLS/ACLS certification.
