Google Messages is rolling out a new batch of features for Android. Like other Google apps, Messages A/B tests many features, so it can take a while for new functionality to reach stable builds. Google Messages is testing a customizable attachments grid. Specific details are not yet available, but the feature has been spotted in beta.
Long-pressing on a message or image now opens a floating menu as the background blurs, replacing the old top toolbar. Another press lets you copy just a part of the chat. Previously, you had to copy the entire message.
Google Messages now offers "Chat theme" for deeper conversation customization. This option replaces "Change colors" from 2024 and is accessible from the three-dot overflow menu. When the feature reaches your phone, look for a red badge.
The Colors carousel themes your message bubbles. There are nine options: Dynamic Color is the first and reacts to the background of your chat, while the other eight are static, similar to earlier color choices.
