Martha Stewart has joined the co-founding team of Hint, a new AI-powered app focused on home maintenance and management. Launching today, Hint uses artificial intelligence to help homeowners tackle tasks like maintenance scheduling, energy management, soil and air quality analysis, insurance claims, and more. Stewart is not a figurehead—she actively works with the development team, providing hands-on feedback on design, language, and accuracy. According to co-founder and CTO Kyle Rush, Stewart visits twice a week to review the app’s outputs, particularly around soil and home-related details.
When users enter their home address, Hint builds a detailed profile using public records—property data, weather, soil information, utilities, and more. Homeowners can upload documents like inspection reports, warranties, mortgage papers, contracts, and insurance policies. The AI then analyzes this data to provide actionable insights.
Hint can tell you about soil composition beneath your foundation, how it affects lawn drainage or foundation risk, and provide air quality ratings. Climate and drought data help predict flood risks, insurance rate changes, and energy usage patterns.
Users upload photos of major appliances, and Hint guides them through “how-to” questions and maintenance tasks. Many homeowners overlook small but critical upkeep tasks—like vacuuming refrigerator coils to prevent fire hazards, flushing water heaters, or checking well salt levels. Hint sends proactive push notifications with a personalized schedule that evolves as your home changes.
Stewart’s decades of home management experience shape the app’s recommendations. She ensures the advice is accurate and practical, covering everything from appliance care to seasonal home projects.
Hint provides a home score, giving a quick snapshot of how well you’re managing your property. This score updates based on completed tasks, uploaded documents, and environmental factors.
The built-in AI chatbot lets you ask questions about your home: from simple queries like “When was the AC last serviced?” to complex topics like kilowatt-hour costs or whether a HELOC is a good idea. It can also guide you on homeowner’s insurance—checking deductibles, coverage gaps, or whether to file a claim.
Hint is initially free with no subscriptions or ads. The app generates revenue through an affiliate network of service providers, but Rush emphasizes the AI is firewalled to avoid bias. A future premium subscription may add power-user features like managing multiple properties. Backed by $10 million in funding from investors including Montauk Capital, Brian Kelly, Slow Ventures, and others, Hint aims to become the go-to AI for every homeowner.
Under the hood, Hint uses commercial AI libraries, primarily OpenAI and Gemini for image processing. Co-founder Kyle Rush previously led engineering at Casper and was CTO at Maisonette, while CEO Yih-Han Ma was SVP at Red Ventures. The app is available now on iOS, with a vision to put home intelligence in the hands of every homeowner.
