Lyft’s Self-Driving Shuttle Buses Are Coming in 2026

Lyft’s self-driving shuttle buses are almost here, and riders will soon have a new way to move around airports and cities—without a driver. Starting in late 2026, Lyft will introduce the Holon Urban, an autonomous electric shuttle developed in partnership with Benteler Mobility. Riders will be able to book these self-driving trips directly through the Lyft app. Designed to improve convenience and reduce emissions, this new initiative aims to offer an efficient solution for high-traffic zones.  

What to Expect from Lyft’s Self-Driving Shuttle Buses

Lyft’s self-driving shuttle buses are designed for short-range urban mobility, particularly within airports and city routes. Each Holon Urban shuttle can accommodate up to 15 passengers and reach speeds of up to 37 MPH. Equipped with 11 cameras and a sophisticated sensor suite—including radar and lidar—the vehicle operates with Level 4 autonomy. This means the shuttle can drive without human assistance in designated zones. Powered by Intel’s Mobileye technology, the Holon Urban is part of Lyft’s broader strategy to expand its autonomous fleet, following earlier collaborations with Waymo, Motional, and May Mobility.

How Holon and Mobileye Power Lyft’s Autonomous Future

The Holon Urban shuttle is more than just an electric bus—it’s the backbone of Lyft’s next-generation mobility plans. Holon, a subsidiary of Benteler, will supply the vehicles, while Mobileye provides the autonomous driving tech. Mobileye’s software allows for precise navigation, safety monitoring, and fully driverless operation within defined parameters. Lyft’s collaboration with these partners showcases its commitment to scaling smart mobility while staying competitive with rivals like Uber, which recently announced plans to deploy 20,000 robotaxis with Lucid and Nuro. These advancements mark a significant step forward for driverless public transportation in the U.S.

Where Lyft’s Self-Driving Shuttle Buses Will Operate

Although Lyft hasn’t announced exact routes yet, plans are already underway to set up a manufacturing facility for Holon vehicles in Jacksonville, Florida. The city is also a likely candidate for early deployment, with goals to connect residential and business areas. Major airports and high-density metro regions are expected to be part of the rollout. Lyft’s integration of these autonomous shuttles into its app ensures a seamless user experience, letting riders choose driverless options alongside traditional ride-hailing services.
