New leaked images of third-party clear cases for the upcoming iPhone 18, iPhone 18 Pro, and iPhone 18 Pro Max suggest Apple could be reversing its controversial clear case design. According to reports from Chinese social media and tech site MyDrivers, the cases show a return to a more traditional MagSafe ring design, moving away from the opaque white panel that drew heavy criticism on the iPhone 17 Pro clear case.
If these leaks prove accurate, it would mark a significant course correction for Apple. The iPhone 17 Pro clear case replaced the standard circular MagSafe magnet array with a large, opaque white rectangle covering most of the back panel—a move many buyers felt defeated the purpose of a "clear" case.
The third-party cases, designed to mimic Apple's official accessories, feature a horseshoe or ring-style MagSafe design with a break at the bottom. This allows the Apple logo to remain visible through the case without needing a large opaque panel. The design is consistent with other third-party cases already on the market.
The iPhone 17 Pro clear case was highly polarizing at launch. The iPhone 17 Pro's Apple logo shifted to a lower position on the rear panel, sitting within a new rectangular glass section below the camera bump. To avoid obscuring this logo, Apple replaced the traditional MagSafe ring with a large, opaque white rounded rectangle bearing a centered Apple logo.
Forum discussions and reviews described the white panel as a "deal breaker" for many buyers who wanted to showcase their phone's color. The result covered most of the lower three-quarters of the case, making it far from transparent.
Given the negative reaction, it wouldn't be surprising if Apple opted to move to the open horseshoe design for the iPhone 18 Pro. Accessory manufacturers commonly produce cases ahead of Apple announcements using anticipated details sourced from the supply chain.
Beyond the MagSafe redesign, the replica cases reflect other design details consistent with existing rumors about the new models.
The standard iPhone 18 case features a cutout suggesting a vertical dual-camera layout, in line with reports that the base model will retain a broadly similar rear design to its predecessor.
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max cases both show large horizontal camera plateau cutouts consistent with the design established on the iPhone 17 Pro models.
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to be announced alongside the first foldable iPhone in the fall. The iPhone 18 is likely set to follow in the spring with the iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2.
