iOS 27 Phone & FaceTime Features: Call Context, Dual Capture & More

Phone App: Call Context with Apple Intelligence

The Phone app in iOS 27 introduces Call Context, a feature powered by Apple Intelligence that runs entirely on-device. When you call a business like an airline or hotel, the app scans your Mail inbox to surface relevant details — such as a flight confirmation or reservation code — directly on the call screen. No audio is monitored; it simply links the dialed number to matching mail content. This feature requires an iPhone 15 Pro or newer and also works when placing calls from iPad or Mac.

How Call Context Works

Call Context uses on-device machine learning to analyze the number you dial and cross-reference it with emails. For example, calling an airline may show your booking reference; calling a hotel may display your check-in date. This saves you from searching through apps or emails during a call.

Privacy & Compatibility

  • Data processing stays on your device — no information is sent to Apple or third parties.
  • Supported on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and all newer models.
  • Also works when calling from a paired iPad or Mac (requires continuity).

FaceTime: Dual Capture and More

FaceTime in iOS 27 brings Dual Capture, allowing you to share both your front and back camera feeds simultaneously during a call. This feature is available on iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone Air, and newer models. The person you're calling sees your face and the rear camera view at the same time.

Using Dual Capture

To enable Dual Capture, tap the camera flip button during a FaceTime call. You can also turn off the front camera view to show only the back camera feed. While only supported iPhones can initiate dual streaming, any device running iOS 27 can receive and display the dual video stream — no hardware requirements for the viewer.

Other FaceTime Improvements

  • Connection Quality — FaceTime calls now maintain better quality under poor network conditions.
  • Wi-Fi/Cellular Handoff — iPhones transition more smoothly between Wi-Fi and cellular, reducing dropped calls when moving between networks.
  • Live Captions — Traditional Chinese now supports live captions during calls.
  • Communication Safety — Expanded to block gore and violence in FaceTime and Messages, in addition to existing nudity protection.
