Honor Magic V5: The World’s Thinnest Foldable Phone?
Honor has officially unveiled the Magic V5, claiming it to be the world’s thinnest foldable phone — but there's a catch. While its “Ivory White” model measures just 8.8mm when folded, that spec ignores the prominent camera bump. Still, Honor edges out the 8.9mm Oppo Find N5 by a hair, and the Magic V5 impresses with a sleek profile, premium finishes, and flagship-level hardware. With a global launch expected soon, tech enthusiasts are eager to see if this foldable really lives up to its ultra-thin reputation.
Honor Magic V5 Sets New Benchmark in Foldable Thickness
When folded, the Magic V5’s slim 8.8mm chassis beats the Oppo Find N5 by just 0.1mm — a difference that’s barely noticeable. However, the claim only applies to the white version, which uses a “special fiber” finish. Other colors clock in at 9mm due to different vegan leather materials. Once unfolded, the Magic V5 is still slimmer than most competitors at 4.1mm thick. But despite these dimensions, the large triple camera bump makes the phone feel bulkier than its numbers suggest.
Flagship Specs Back Up the Magic V5’s Design
Beyond its sleek appearance, the Magic V5 delivers top-tier performance. Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and up to 16GB of RAM, it also boasts a 5,820mAh battery and 120Hz LTPO OLED displays on both panels. It includes wireless charging, IP58/IP59 ratings for water and dust resistance, and runs on Honor’s MagicOS, based on Android. While the 64MP periscope camera might justify the added thickness, the bump could be a drawback for those prioritizing portability.
What Honor’s Slim Design Really Means for Foldables
The Honor Magic V5 continues a trend of foldables competing for millimeter supremacy. While it may not be meaningfully thinner in practical use, it reflects the limits of today’s folding phone engineering. As we approach the point of diminishing returns in size, manufacturers like Honor, Oppo, and Samsung must find new ways to innovate. Still, with its lightweight 217g build, advanced hardware, and refined design, the Magic V5 remains a compelling contender in the next generation of foldable smartphones.
